All musicians invited to Salina, Kansas to compete in the semi-final and final rounds of the competition may either stay in a hotel of their choice, and at their expense, or they may also stay with a Competition host family in Salina. Several families have graciously offered to open their homes and host a young artist during their stay in Salina and many have fine pianos on which to practice.

The application form asks whether or not the applicant would like to stay with a host family or if they prefer to find their own lodging. This gives the organizers of the competition time to find an appropriate host for the young artist.
