The King Award for Young Artists piano competition will take place in the spring of 2009 in Salina, Kansas. Eligible contestants must be a resident of Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Colorado, and be at least 18 years of age, but not more than 26 years of age, on April 1, 2009. Competition eligibility includes pianists with residency in one of the five states listed above who are currently studying anywhere in the world.

The preliminary round will be conducted through DVD submission. After DVDs and applications are screened, 12 young artists will be invited to compete in the semi-final round held in Salina, Kansas, on April 3, 2009. All artists invited to Salina to compete in the semi-final round will receive a $250 stipend to help offset travel expenses.

Approximately six finalists will advance to the final round, which will take place on Saturday, April 4. The Bronze Medal winner will receive $1,000 cash, the Silver Medal $2,500, and the Gold Medal $5,000. The Gold Medal winner will return to Salina, all expenses paid, to perform as a soloist with the Salina Symphony in the fall of 2009.
